Contract & Bid Manager (m/f/d) Plant construction for the beverage industry

Our client is a leading producer of customized tank and process technology solutions for the beverage industry. With its many years of international experience, the company is an established and reliable partner for its demanding customers around the globe. As part of an international group it offers technically and economically optimal solutions in all dimensions, up to complex EPC-projects. With the German headquarters, the company with more than 400 employees is based in a southern German metropolis and controls all process steps of the value chain from there. For the further successful implementation of national and international projects, the position of a Contract & Bid Manager (m/f/d) will be filled at the German headquarters.


Your Job

The primary focus for this function is the responsibility within the sales department on contractual agreements, dealing with claims and issues and collection of long overdue debts in an international environment – with direct customer contact – predominantly in the pre-sales phase. The collaboration in drafting, evaluation and negotiation of project contracts is an essential part of the job. On the basis of these contracts, the internal processing of the individual parts of the contract will be carried out. The Contract & Bid Manager has a leading role in the negotiation process on contractual terms and conditions of (bigger) projects and in overseeing correct execution of the contract.

The secondary focus of this role is the management and coordination of the internal proposal and approval process with all departments involved, as well as the constant effort to improve both the process and the proposals in order to ensure maximum competitiveness in the proposal phase in non-technical matters.


This includes in detail:

  • Develops contract strategy based on company policies, customer requirements and the overall execution strategy considering risk, pricing, scope and schedule.
  • Analysis of inquiries, tenders and commercial terms and conditions.
  • Preparation of quotation and contract texts with regards to contract and claim management methodologies.
  • Develops the negotiation strategy and take the lead in formal dispute resolution, litigation, arbitration and claim settlement proceedings. Reports major claims and issues and keeps the Management updated on any critical development during project execution.
  • Consultation and participation in contract negotiations and conclusions of contracts.
  • Contact person for internal and external communication on all matters relating to contract law and compliance.
  • Close coordination with the order processing department.
  • Monitoring contract execution including change /variation processes, ensuring a timely review and approval/reconciliation thereof as well as legal risk management.
  • Preparation and representation of the company and other group companies in legal cases in contracting disputes.
  • Assesses the success of the contract and determines if there are any lessons learned for future contracting.


Your Profile

  • Graduated in law studies or business administration
  • Several years of experience as Contract Manager / Bid Manager in international plant engineering and the capital goods industry as well as experience as Legal Counsel in an internationally operating company
  • Broad knowledge of the types and structure of contracts in the international construction and capital goods industry
  • Very good knowledge in commercial private law, licence law and corporate compliance
  • Knowledge of the use of MS Office and contract database management (ideally SAP)
  • Intercultural awareness
  • Business fluent German and English spoken and written skills.
  • Willingness to travel worldwide
